TOKYO (Sputnik) — South Korean President Park Geun-hye expressed on Wednesday hope for strengthening of the allied relations with the United States after Donald Trump’s victory in presidential elections.
"Given the United States is our ally and that the South Korea-U.S. relationship has a great impact on our diplomacy, security and economy, I think we need to extensively explore ways to develop close relations with the incoming Trump administration," Park's statement, cited by the Yonhap news agency, said.
Park has reportedly sent a congratulatory message to Trump.
Earlier in the day, Republican presidential nominee Trump won the US presidential elections despite most of the analysts and opinion polls predicting his defeat to Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton.
