US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew said that the United States will continue imposing sanctions on Iran for its sanctionable actions outside of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States will continue imposing sanctions on Iran for its sanctionable actions outside of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew said in a statement.

On Saturday, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed Iran's compliance with the agreement on country's nuclear program and implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) came into effect. Soon after that, the regime of sanctions imposed on Tehran by the United States has been substantially weakened.

"As we have said all along, while the JCPOA addresses the nuclear issues, it does not resolve other areas where Iran’s behavior remains unacceptable. We will continue to target sanctionable activities outside of the JCPOA – including those related to Iran’s support for terrorism, regional destabilization, human rights abuses, and ballistic missile development," Lew said on Saturday.

He added that despite lifting a significant part of sanctions, the US embargo broadly remained in place, meaning that US citizens and entities would still be prohibited from direct contacts with the majority of Iranian entities.

On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 group of countries comprising the United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom plus Germany, signed the JCPOA. The agreement guarantees the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

All foreign US policies are a total hypocrisy and the world is fed up of it , Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and all others that are killing for no reason innocent humans should be sanctionned. The Us keeps on selling arms to Saudi Arabia, gives them to Israel for free to kill Palestinians and Syrians, the World by not decrying these crimes is also playing the US hypocritical game. Unfortunatly the values of the world we live in are totally wrong and because MONEY is the only thing that counts, nothing will change. HUMAN LIFE IS NOTHING MORE THAN UEFUL FOR TAX PAYMENTS.

Where are the sanctions on Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Israel for creating Daesh (IS). US has become on one hand the laughing stock of the world. Israel, Saudi Arabia & Qatar and all others that are killing for no reason innocent humans should be sanctioned. The Us keeps on selling arms to Saudi Arabia, gives them to Israel for free to kill Palestinians, Yemenis and Syrians.

I don't have a problem with old days' sanctions, as a right of any country to decide who to deal with. Nowadays' sanctions are more like a “gang rape” rather than a right for a particular country to exercise. You can see most of the common features: to break down one's self-respect and moral integrity by a group who has been refused a 'free ride'.

The group has a gang leader who has got a pledge of allegiance from each member. They isolate their target and take turn: some take pleasure in joining, some have to do it because of the pledge of allegiance to the gang. Today, US is the gang leader and the so-called western nations are the gang members. In the Iran case, even the all Jewish SWIFT banking mafia joined too, I think for the first time as Iran seemed too hard a nut to crack.

I suspect the leader is fast losing respect and may not have followers as usual.

When will the rest of the world realize that the dollar is also based upon the word of the US? That is, the fiat currency of the US is debt-based and thus only as good as the US promise to pay, and obviously that promise is as good as the rest . . . .

And yet Iran wants to buy equipment in the tens if not hundreds of billions of dollars from these countries and NOT from the countries that actually helped get the sanctions lifted - Russia.

      Screw Iran, they deserve it.

"meaning that US citizens and entities would still be prohibited from direct contacts with the majority of Iranian entities"

A blatant lie from Lew, as the main US companies like Cisco or Oracle are very active in Iran since years already !

Or maybe these entities are above DC, and these comments only apply to smaller business ?

Everything based on lies and Iran framed from day one, yet these zio criminals get away with it. Iran targeted since forever by zio-israh*ll who wants to be king of the ME. Actually any political news coming from Washington or gov sources, has for many decades not been worth reading. May Iran and Syria flourish and the western baddies and their evil satellites, all wither on the vine!
