WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A successfully negotiated ceasefire and political transition in Syria will allow all actors in the conflict to focus their efforts on destroying the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh), US President Barack Obama said in a year-end press conference on Friday.
Obama stated that a negotiated Syrian political transition gives the international community an opportunity to "hopefully initiate a ceasefire that won’t be perfect, but allows all the parties to turn on what should be our number one focus, and that is destroying Daesh and its allies in the region."
