UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Churkin added that he expressed hope that the political will necessary for the implementation of the UNSC Resolution 2202 calling on all the parties to the Ukrainian conflict to ensure full implementation of the Minsk agreements would prevail among the Ukrainian authorities.
“Washington in supporting its Kiev partners is playing a destructive role and moving out of the context of the Normandy format. This is why the political settlement is so difficult,” Churkin said.
Normandy four-format talks were created in 2014 to secure a peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. In February, the quartet's leaders from Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine worked out the Minsk peace deal, later signed by representatives of the Kiev government and militias from the eastern Ukrainian Donbass region.
