MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Matvienko, who is included in US sanctions lists, was granted a limited US visa earlier in the week. She was set to head Russia's delegation to the 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament at the UN headquarters, but Moscow stated that the visit was made impossible by Washington's visa restrictions.
"I cannot but address another rudeness on the part of the US State Department. The limits and standards of diplomatic impropriety are being set today in Washington," Naryshkin told reporters.
"Such a shameless violation of international law as the decision of US authorities to impose visa restrictions on the Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko is just another example of this," he added.
