MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the Daily Sabah newspaper, neither the Turkish Foreign Ministry, nor the Iranian embassy in Ankara, indicated a reason for the change in plans.

Last week, the Iranian Foreign Ministry press service told Sputnik that Zarif would be arriving in Ankara August 7 to meet with Turkish officials to discuss several issues, including the crisis in Syria, according to the press service.

Later media reports claimed Zarif would visit Turkey on Tuesday.

Syria, in the state of civil war since 2011, is partially controlled by the Islamic State (IS) militant group, currently threatening countries across the Middle East and North Africa.

Turkey, which borders war-torn Syria, is conducting airstrikes on IS positions in the country.
