US Deputy Secretary of State to Visit China, Japan, South Korea

Antony Blinken will hold talks with the top officials of three Asian countries during his first trip overseas.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Deputy Secretary of State will visit the Republic of Korea, China and Japan next week to strengthen bilateral cooperation with each country, according to the statement release by the State Department on Wednesday.

“In his first trip overseas as Deputy Secretary of State, Deputy Secretary Antony Blinken will travel next week to the ROK [Republic of Korea], China, and Japan to meet with a wide range of government officials and non-governmental experts to advance our relationships in these countries,” the release said.

During his visit to Korea on February 9-10, Blinken will discuss coordination on North Korea issues as well as the shared regional and global priorities.

“He will also meet with university students and exchange program alumni, emphasizing the close ties between the people of the United States and the ROK [Republic of Korea],” State Department said.

China’s Ministry of Defense delegation will visit the United States to hold negotiations with US officials in Pentagon on February 5, according to a Pentagon press release. - Sputnik International

Blinken will travel to China on February 10 for a three day visit “to meet with senior Chinese government officials, to discuss ongoing cooperation on a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues.”

In Tokyo, February 12-14, deputy secretary will meet senior Japanese government officials. He also will deliver a public address highlighting US economic policy in the East Asia and Pacific region.
