During tomorrow's session, the EU Political and Security Committee member-states will discuss the elections in Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics as well as other agenda in Ukraine.

BRUSSELS, November 3 (RIA Novosti) — The EU Political and Security Committee, sitting at the level of EU ambassadors, will discuss elections in Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) and other events in Ukraine Tuesday, an EU diplomat told RIA Novosti Monday.

"Tomorrow the [EU] member-states will discuss the elections as well as other agenda in Ukraine at the EU Political and Security Committee session," the diplomat said.

On Sunday, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said that the elections, conducted in DPR and LPR were illegitimate and were an obstacle for settling the crisis.

The EU Political and Security Committee expresses common EU position on issues in its competence, but does not take decisions in international politics at the EU Council level, as the Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper) does, having a sufficient mandate from the European Council. Regarding this, Coreper can entrust EU working groups to elaborate following actions on various matters.

On Sunday, the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics held elections of the heads of the local governments and representatives of the legislative bodies.

The authorities in the European Union and the United State declared earlier that the elections in Donbas were not in line with the Minsk agreement, and that the international community would not recognize them.

Russia, on the contrary, stated it would recognize the elections and stressed that the refusal to do so would contradict the Minsk protocol and ruin efforts to reach peaceful settlement of the crisis.
