WASHINGTON, October 11 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian government should start piecing together its own package of infrastructure projects to share with Australia's fledgling "infrastructure hub," Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said Friday.
"Perhaps we should set up a 'project shop' in Russia to have something to share with that hub, which will accumulate projects offered by G20 member states," Siluanov told journalists in Washington.
Australia has been pushing to create a so-called "infrastructure hub," an initiative that could help the world's biggest economies raise funding for big infrastructure projects. The idea was discussed by G20 finance ministers and central bank governors who gathered in Washington, US, earlier this week.
The group of Twenty is expected to make the final decision on the hub at the upcoming summit of an initiative to be discussed at the G20 Leaders' Summit in Brisbane next month.
Siluanov said he hoped that sanctions, which had been slapped on Russia in the wake of Ukraine crisis, would not stand in the way of the country participating in this superannuation funding project.
Over the past months, the West has been trying to damage Russia’s economy by implementing several rounds of sanctions against it over Moscow’s alleged role in Ukrainian crisis. The measures target the country’s largest banks, energy and defense companies, as well as some individuals.
