Nearly 300 Buildings to Be Renovated in Nizhny Novgorod Ahead of World Cup

The preparations for the coming FIFA World Cup in Russia are in full swing, with hundreds of buildings being repaired and beautified ahead of the event.

Local authorities in Nizhny Novgorod, one of the Russian cities to host the upcoming football tournament, have announced that dozens of buildings in the city will become part of an urban renewal program.

According to the press service of the Nizhny Novgorod Region governor’s office, some 252 residential buildings and 19 cultural heritage structures will undergo renovation.

The program will be funded by the local budget, and is expected to be completed by May 15, about a month before the start of the championship.

Russia will host its first FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15, 2018. The matches will be held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg and Sochi.
