General Electric has won a five year maintenance contract to service the turboshaft engines powering the US Army’s Sikorsky Black Hawk and Apache ground-support combat helicopters, the US Department of Defense announced.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The T700 engine is the power plant for the twin-engine Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk and AH-64 Apache helicopters, as well as for the US Navy’s Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk derivative of the Black Hawk, the Sikorsky SH-2G Super Seasprite and the Bell AH-1W SuperCobra.

T700s engines are also used on Italian and commercial variants of the Agusta Westland AW101 and Italian variants of the NHIindustries NH90 helicopter.

"General Electric Company — GE Aviation [of] Lynn, Massachusetts, was awarded a $45.8 million… contract… to provide support services for various General Electric T700 engines," the announcement stated on Tuesday.
