Discussing the terms of France’s deal to sell two Mistral-class helicopter carriers, originally built for Russia, is premature, a French parliamentary defense and armed forces commission secretary told Sputnik on Wednesday.

PARIS (Sputnik) – The French government announced earlier in the day that President Francois Hollande and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Sisi had agreed on the terms for the sale of the two warships to Egypt.

"It is still premature to talk about the details of the agreement, you need to wait a few days until the exact information is disclosed," Philippe Meunier stressed.

The National Assembly’s committee secretary said his panel had not yet convened a session on the latest deal.

France Confirms Sale of Two Mistrals Built for Russia to Egypt
Russia and France officially terminated the 1.2 billion euro ($1.3 billion at current exchange rates) deal in August, after it was halted by Paris in 2014 over the Ukraine conflict.

French media reported previously that a high-ranking Egyptian delegation was discussing the terms for purchasing the Mistral helicopter carriers with the French government but had been unable to reach an agreement on a final price. Media outlets later cited a French defense ministry source as valuing the deal at 950 million euro ($1 billion at current exchange rates).
