Russia-China Naval Drills in Mediterranean to Be Held on May 17 - 21

Active phase of Russian-Chinese naval exercises "Naval Cooperation 2015" in the Mediterranean Sea, which started on Monday, will be held between May 17 and 21, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping reaffirmed the strategic character of Russian-Chinese bilateral relations during the talks on May 8.

"The staff has immediately started working out the episodes of the exercises on the maps for subsequent implementation of the "Naval Cooperation 2015" drills plan by the Russian and Chinese ships in practice in the sea. Active stage of the drills will be held in the Mediterranean between May 17 and 21."

Cooperation between Russia and China is necessary to maintain the balance of power in the world, China's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cheng Guoping said last Monday.
