WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The exercise codenamed Fearless Guardian 2015 is underway in Yavoriv and military authorities plan to extend it for six more months. Moreover, the armies of Ukraine and the United States will conduct joint drills later in 2015 dubbed Sea Breeze 2015 and Saber Guardian/Rapid Trident.
“This allows the [US] Army to manage its land in an environmentally sound manner to ensure no net loss of training lands for accomplishing primary activities,” the posting, issued on Friday, said.
In April 2015, the US Army sent 300 paratroopers to western Ukraine to train Ukraine’s National Guard.
Kiev is planning to hold three joint exercises with US troops.
The GIS consultants will provide cartographic mapping services, field surveys, geographic imagery, reports and technical drawings, the posting added, which will help military trainers better understand the local terrain and prevailing environmental conditions in Ukraine.
“The US Army recognizes that the execution of training to doctrinal standards under realistic combat conditions will affect the environment,” the posting said.
The GIS contract is worth more than $2 million annually for services to be performed in a number of European countries, including Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Romania, among others, according to the posting.
