Argentina is happy with two Mi-171E helicopters it received from Russia in 2011 and now considers buying some more Russian-made helicopters in the future.

BUENOS AIRES (Sputnik) — Argentina will consider buying more Russian Mi-171E helicopters in the future, because the country is very happy with the two helicopters that it received in 2011, Russian Ambassador to Argentina Viktor Coronelli told RIA Novosti.

“In 2011, two Mi-171E helicopters, modified for civilian use, were delivered here, which were bought by Argentina’s Defense Ministry in order to participate in and support the Antarctic campaigns. With pleasure and pride I can say that the reviews are very good, the grades are very high. Our machines proved to be very good. Today the question of a possible purchase of a second group of helicopters by the Argentinian side is on the agenda,” Coronelli said, adding that there is a possibility that three helicopters will be bought and the discussions are underway.

He also highlighted and praised Russia’s support of Argentina’s Antarctic campaigns. The campaigns involve bringing supplies to Argentinians working on the South Pole where the country has a research institute performing scientific and technical investigations.

The Mi-171E is an export configuration of the well-known Russian Mi-17 helicopter. It is designed for a wide range of uses, including carrying over 30 passengers, carrying cargo, performing search and rescue operations and emergency evacuations.
