MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Barrages of rockets were fired late on Wednesday into Israel from the Gaza Strip controlled by Palestine’s Hamas militants, the Israel Defense Forces said.

"In the last 5 hours, approximately 70 rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip at Israel. The Iron Dome aerial defense system intercepted 11 launches, the majority of the rockets hit open areas," the IDF spokesperson tweeted.

The Israel Defense Forces reported later that its aircraft made an airstrike on a vehicle which, according to IDF, had been used by a "rocket launching squad."
