DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Russia launched its aerial operation in Syria on September 30, 2015, at the request of President Bashar Assad. While targeting terrorist organizations, Russia also provides Syrian civilians with humanitarian aid, helps demine liberated areas, as well as monitors the Syrian ceasefire regime.
"I would like to give proper respect… to Russia for its huge moral and humanitarian role in support of Syria and its people within the framework of morality, international law and strategic relations between the two countries," Qadiri said.
The minister added that the Russian nation had given a hand to people suffering from the "unjust war" against Syria.
Syria has been hit by the civil war since 2011, after protests of the Arab Spring turned violent. A number of countries, including Russia, has been taking steps aimed at the de-escalation of tensions in Syria and at the settlement of the crisis. Moscow has also supported Syrians with humanitarian aid.
