Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Tuesday expressed his condolences to the family of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov who was killed in Ankara.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Karlov was killed by a gunman at an art gallery exhibition opening in Ankara. Three other people were also injured in the attack.

"On behalf of myself and on behalf of the Turkish people I, first of all, express deep condolences to the family of Andrey Gennadievich and to the Russian people… After the attack took place, many of my compatriots from Antalya called and asked me to express deep condolences on their behalf and on behalf of all Turkish people," Cavusoglu told reporters after arriving to Moscow.

Cavusoglu arrived to Moscow late on Monday for taking part in Russian-Turkish-Iranian trilateral talks on settling the Syrian conflict.

"Both sides fully understand that this despicable act will not harm our relations," the foreign minister stressed, adding that the crime was aimed at harming joint Russian-Turkish efforts at settling the conflict in Syria.

"We will not allow this incident to impact our relations, out solidarity in fighting terrorism and, first of all, in fighting terrorist organizations," he stated.
