"Unfortunately, for many years we must assume that, starting from the OSCE, the Red Cross and ending with the UN, such reports are written in the US and Anglo-Saxon interests. We have seen that in international organizations generally objective reports are being presented to a US representative or a leader of the delegation before a publication, to present US views to the world," Willy Wimmer, who is also the former state secretary in the German Defense Ministry, said.
He stressed that the Syrian government, Russia and Iran are the only countries that were acting in Syria in accordance with the international law but despite of that they had not received any significant support from the United Nations.
"Following the example of the war in Yugoslavia, the UN has become an aggressive instrument of NATO. This undermines a much needed confidence of the international community … in such important organizations as the Red Cross, the OSCE and the United Nations," Wimmer said.
He added that leading Western media are oriented toward supporting the military policy of NATO.
The civil war has been raging in Syria since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups. The Islamic State extremist group, outlawed in Russia and many other countries, has been able to capture large territories in both Syria and Iraq since 2014.
