"The Board of Inquiry into the incident involving a UN-Syrian Arab Red Crescent relief operation to Urum al-Kubra on 19 September submitted its report to the Deputy Secretary-General this afternoon," the statement said on Friday.
The UN Deputy Secretary-General will examine the report within the next several days, the statement noted.
On September 30, the Board of Inquiry was established by outgoing UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to investigate the attacks on an aid convoy operating under the auspices of the United Nations and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. An airstrike hit the convoy trucks heading to Syria’s Aleppo province.
According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, at least 20 people were killed in Urm al-Kubra in the airstrike. Eighteen of the convoy’s 31 trucks were destroyed.
US military officials had claimed Russia was responsible for the strike, while Moscow has denied the accusations, calling for the incident to be investigated thoroughly.
