Over 2,000 Militants From Russia, CIS States Eliminated in Syria in 2016

More than 2,000 militants from Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States were eliminated in Syria in the past year, Russian General Staff Chief Army General Valery Gerasimov said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – In October, the Russian Defense Ministry said that about 35,000 terrorists, including over 2,700 nationals of Russia and other CIS countries, had been killed in clashes with Syrian government forces since February 2016.

"In the past year, more than 2,000 militants, natives of Russia and CIS states, were eliminated in the past year on the Syrian territory," Gerasimov told a briefing.
