The battle for Aleppo has intensified as the Syrian Army liberated a crucial district of Sukn-ash-Shababi, which is situated on the road to the international airport.

Since the liberation of the district it has now been possible to start work on restoring the airport.

According to a military source, the Syrian Army has cleared the area from mines and placed artillery, tanks and armored personnel carriers in the area.

The next step for the army is to carry out attacks on the Ash-Shaar and Ad-Djazmati districts. The liberation of these strategic areas from the militants is only a matter of time, the respondent told Sputnik Arabic.

The second largest Syrian civilian airport is located 10 km from the city of Aleppo.

After retaking control of about two-thirds of militant-held east Aleppo over the past week, the forces advanced on the large residential district of Shaar. With the capture of Shaar, the army will hold nearly 70 percent of east Aleppo; four years after the militants first seized it and divided the ancient city.

The road leading to the airport and district of Sukh-ash-Shababi are seen in the video.
