    At Least Eight Killed, 25 Injured in Militant Shelling of Aleppo Districts

    At least 8 people were killed and 25 got injures as a result of rocket shelling of Aleppo residential neighborhoods by militants, local media reported Monday.

    DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — According to the Syrian news agency SANA, the militants carried our rocket attacks against al-Meridian, al-Zahraa and al-Masharqa neighborhood.

    Earlier in the day, media reported about two victims — a man and his young daughter.

    Over the weekend, the Syrian army, backed by local militia, took over a number of districts in eastern Aleppo, and it is leading the offensive further, after militants have refused to surrender and leave the city peacefully.

    Overall, the government forces have by now recaptured almost half of the parts of the city seized by rebels in 2012.

    The battle over Aleppo is ongoing for several months, with thousands of civilians blocked from leaving the city.
