According to the Dawn newspaper, the incident occurred on Sunday at the Karachi’s Regent Plaza hotel. The blaze broke out in the kitchen on the hotel's ground floor, then the fire swept through the building. Some guests of the hotel jumped out of windows or were tying sheets to get out of the rooms, since the hotel had no fire exits or fire alarms.
According to Seemin Jamali, head of the emergency services at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, about 65 people affected by the fire were brought to the emergency, most of them had fractured bones or were injured by shattered glass.
There are three foreigners among those injured, though their citizenship is not specified.
The firefighters managed to localize the fire only three hours after it started. The rescue operation continues, since there still could be people in the hotel. The causes of the fire are unknown.
