Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his country has secured the support of Russia needed to fight fires that have erupted in various parts of Israel.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Israeli firefighters have been struggling with several blazes in various parts of the country since the start of the week.

The strongest fires are active in the areas around the town of Zikhron Ya’akov and near Jerusalem.

"Prime Ministers of Greece and Croatia answered immediately to the request and sent planes and crew members as soon as possible. Also, the Russian government has updated us that it would soon send us a big plane to battle fire," Netanyahu wrote on Facebook.

Netanyahu warned on Wednesday that fires could expand on Thursday as strong winds are expected overnight.
