A Saudi border guard was killed by shelling at the Saudi–Yemen border shortly before a ceasefire entered into force.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Saudi-led international coalition announced earlier in the day that a 48-hour truce would start at 09:00 GMT.

"Private at Facilities Security Forces, Adel Bahlol Khardli, was exposed to fire from an unknown source, resulting in the martyrdom of him," the Interior Ministry's security spokesman said in statement, as quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

According to Yemeni local media Saba news agency, the country's military official confirmed the attack.

Yemen has been engulfed in a violent conflict between the government headed by Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and the Houthi movement, the country’s main opposition force, who are backed by army units loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Since March 2015, the Saudi-led coalition of mostly Persian Gulf countries has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis at Hadi's request.
