Israeli Forces Kill Palestinian Attempting to Stab Soldiers

A Palestinian assailant attempted to stab an Israeli soldier was shot dead in the Ofra settlement, according to the statement of the Israel Defense Forces.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Israeli forces shot and killed one Palestinian as he was trying to stab Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers in the Ofra settlement, the IDF announced on Thursday.

"A Palestinian assailant attempted to stab an IDF soldier in Ofra. Responding to threat, forces shot the assailant, resulting in his death," IDF wrote on twitter.

​This is the second attack that targeted Israeli soldiers during this week. Earlier on Monday, Israeli soldiers killed another Palestinian who opened fire at an army checkpoint in Beit El settlement in West Bank. Three IDF sertvicemen were injured during the cross-fire.

Relations between Israel and Palestine have been shattered for decades. Palestinians seek diplomatic recognition for their independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which is partially occupied by Israel, and the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government refuses to recognize Palestine as an independent political and diplomatic entity, and builds settlements on the occupied areas, despite objections from the United Nations.
