MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The incident occurred when the train was running between the provinces of Elazig and Tatvan, the Anadolu news agency said, citing its sources in police. There have been no reports about people killed or injured in the explosion so far.
The Kurdistan Workers Party’s (PKK) militants are suspected of being behind the attack. The Turkish security services launched an aerial operation to find those responsible for the blast.
Tensions between Ankara and the PKK escalated in July 2015 when a ceasefire between the sides collapsed over a series of terror attacks allegedly carried out by the members of PKK outlawed by Ankara.
Turkish authorities have imposed several round-the-clock curfews in Kurdish-populated towns in the country's southeast, preventing civilians from fleeing the regions where the military operations are taking place.
