Syria Ceasefire ‘Not Dead,’ Full ISSG Likely to Convene Later This Week - Kerry
NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Only the United States and Russia, the two co-chairs of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG), can announce the collapse of the Syrian ceasefire and neither did so at a Monday ISSG meeting, UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura told reporters on Monday.

“The ceasefire is in danger, the ceasefire is being seriously affected, but the only ones who can announce that the ceasefire is dead are the two co-chairs, and they have today not done so,” de Mistura said after an ISSG meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

On Monday, the UN officials said that an aid convoy was hit near Aleppo and there were casualties. Earlier on Tuesday, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) said that at least one humanitarian worker and around 20 civilians were killed in the attack.

“We are profoundly outraged and this is definitely been a game-changer, which I think will be helping Friday be a serious meeting about how to restore [the] cessation of hostilities, humanitarian aid, and phase three [of the Geneva process],” de Mistura said after a meeting of the ISSG on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

'Cowards': UN Chief Slams Attack on Aid Convoy in Syria's Aleppo
The Russian Defense Ministry said earlier in the day that the examination of video footage reveals no signs of an ammunition strikes on the convoy, adding that the cargo was set on fire that "strangely coincided with a major offensive by militants in Aleppo."

The ministry emphasized that the perpetrator of the fire, as well as his goal may be known by members of the "White Helmets" organization that has connection to al-Nusra Front terrorists who have "accidentally" been at the right time and in the right place with cameras.

De Mistura further confirmed that the ceasefire “is not dead,” and the United States and Russia “want to give it another chance.”
