Militants Violate New Ceasefire by Shelling Syrian Army Positions in Aleppo

Militants opened mortar fire at Syrian army positions in northern outskirts of the Aleppo city on Monday, violating a new ceasefire regime brokered by Russia and the United States, a Syrian military source said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The new Russia-US brokered nationwide ceasefire regime in Syria came into force on September 12.

"Militants violated the ceasefire. Army positions were shelled with mortar rounds near the Castillo Road [in Aleppo]," the source told RIA Novosti.

According to the source, the Syrian army responded with artillery fire, while the forward-deployed units are ready to repel ground attacks by militants if necessary.
