MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Ankara announced on early Wednesday that Turkish forces, backed by US-led coalition aircraft, had begun a military operation dubbed "Euphrates Shield" to clear the Syrian border town of Jarablus of Daesh terrorists.
"The National Coalition welcomes the Turkish and international coalition’s support for the military operation in Jarablus and notes that the coalition’s presence is temporary and with limited logistical goals, the ground operations are being carried out by the Free Syrian Army," the statement reads.
The Damascus authorities condemned Ankara's decision to send forces across the Syrian border considering the move a violation of Syria's sovereignty.
