    At least 18,000 Daesh militants remain in Syria and Iraq, according to CIA estimates.

    WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — At least 18,000 Daesh militants remain in Syria and Iraq, US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennan said during a hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday.

    "Right now we estimate within the Syria, Iraq area its between 18,000 and 22,000 fighters," Brennan said.

    The CIA director added that the number of militants has been reduced significantly since a year ago.
