Scores of Daesh militants have reportedly been killed in southern areas of Aleppo province in northern Syria, where the Syrian army and the National Defense Forces continued their offensive.

The Syrian Army and the National Defense Forces have managed to regain control of another town in northern Syria's Aleppo province, killing scores of terrorists from Daesh, also known as the Islamic State or ISIL, according to the Iranian news agency FARS.

On Tuesday, government troops launched a series of attacks on Daesh militants' strongholds near the town of al-Hamira and finally pushed them back after hours of fierce clashes.

"The militant groups suffered a heavy death toll and retreated forces from the battlefield. A large number of the militants were also captured by the Syrian forces," a source was quoted by FARS as saying.

In a separate development on Monday, the Syrian forces advanced on Al-Nusra Front militants, who suffered heavy losses during fighting near the long-contested Al-Khalidiyah Quarter of the city of Aleppo, which was finally captured by government troops.

According to sources, Daesh militants inside the provincial capital of Aleppo will face tougher times ahead as winter comes and the Syrian army continues their offensive along the strategic Aleppo-Damascus Highway.

Meanwhile, the Syrian warplanes have reportedly destroyed Daesh positions in Tal Ayyoub, Sharbaa, Jarouf and Humaymah, located in the eastern countryside of ‪Aleppo. A large group of terrorists have been killed in the air attacks. ‬

Earlier, the Syrian airstrikes hit Daesh militants' strongholds in the strategic city of al-Quaryatayn in Homs province in central Syria. Scores of terrorists were reportedly killed in the air raids.

Adding to Syrian airstrikes is Russia's air campaign which kicked off on September 30, when more than fifty Russian aircraft, including Su-24M, Su-25 and Su-34 warplanes, commenced precision airstrikes on Islamic State targets in Syria at the behest of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
