MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to Al Jazeera, the Monday explosions targeted Shiite Muslims engaged in an annual religious pilgrimage.
According to the broadcaster, one of the bombings took place at a checkpoint located along a route used by pilgrims going to the holy city of Karbala for the "Arbaeen," a Shia Muslim religious commemoration.
A second blast occurred in the Shaab neighborhood located in the northern part of Baghdad, the broadcaster said, citing police.
No responsibility has been claimed in the attacks.
