MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Iraqi News, the incident occurred late on Sunday.
"A bomb exploded at noon today near shops in al-Wahda neighborhood south of the capital Baghdad, resulting in the death of one person and wounding seven others," a source in the local Internal Ministry said as quoted by the media.
The source added that the injured were transported to a nearby hospital.
The situation in Iraq has been unstable in recent months, triggered primarily by the activity of Islamist militants.
The Islamic State militant group has taken over large parts in Iraq since 2014, declared a caliphate on the territories under its control and committed numerous human rights atrocities in the country.
