The Nusra Front massacred civilians in the central square of a village in the Syrian Homs Governorate, according to local media reports.

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Militants from the Jabhat al-Nusra (the Nusra Front) terrorist group have committed a mass massacre of civilians in a northern part of the Syrian Homs governorate, local media reported Thursday.

The death toll has not yet been confirmed.

According to the Syrian news portal Champress, the massacre took place near the mosque located in the central square of a local village. The terrorists have accused the Syrian army of destructing mosques and houses.

The Syrian army has repeatedly dismissed claims of attacking civilian settlements.

On Thursday morning, Syrian government troops began a large-scale operation in the north of the Homs Governorate. According to latest reports, two settlements were liberated while some 20 terrorists were killed.

Syria has been engulfed in a civil war since 2011, as Syrian government forces fight opposition factions and extremist groups, including Islamic State and the Nusra Front insurgent groups.
