"The international community has failed to provide adequate financial support for Syrians in desperate need," the organization announced.
The charity observed that only 44 percent of an estimated $8.9 billion, recommended by the charity based on internal calculations, have been allocated by foreign states in response to the Syrian civil war.
Oxfam called on the international community to take urgent measures to assist Syrians, including increasing aid funding, offering to house refugees who have fled the country, halting the sale of arms and ammunition into the country, immediately stopping all hostilities and reviving practical steps toward ending the war in Syria.
Syria has been torn by a civil war since 2011, which has killed over 250,000 people and displaced over 11 million. Four million Syrians are estimated to have fled into neighboring countries and Europe.
