MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The number of Syrian government soldiers executed by rebels at the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in the northwestern province of Idlib has reached 71, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported Saturday.
"Jabhat al-Nusra, the Turkestan Islamic Party and other Islamist factions executed at least 56 soldiers of the regime forces who were arrested in the airbase of Abo al-Dohur airbase rising the number of soldiers who have been executed since seizing the airbase to 71," the SOHR reported.
On September 9, Syria lost control of Abu al-Duhur, the last regime military airbase in Idlib, which Syrian government troops had been defending from rebel forces for almost two years.
Syria has been engulfed in civil war since 2011, with the government fighting against opposition factions and militant groups, including Islamic State and the Nusra Front.
