The death toll from Ecuador's earthquake has risen to 480, the country's Deputy Interior Minister Diego Fuentes Acosta said on Tuesday.

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — A further 2,500 people have been injured, the deputy minister said, as quoted by the Univision news website.

Earlier figures placed the death toll at 424. Ecuador's President Rafael Correa has stated that the 7.8-magnitude earthquake has cost the country some $3 million.
