Venezuelan New National Assembly President Attacked in Local Market

The new head of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Henry Ramos Allup, has been attacked while visiting one of the Caracas markets, local media reported.

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — According to El Nacional news portal, the attack took place in the Quinta Crespo market on Saturday.

"They [attackers] threw stones and broke the window of the car, but the market workers repulsed them," Ramos said on his Twitter account.

​Ramos was unharmed, according to the news portal.

Venezuela’s new opposition-controlled parliament is currently headed by Henry Ramos Allup, leader of the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), which had for the first time in 17 years gained a parliamentary majority in elections held on December 6, 2015, gaining a total two-thirds of seats in the National Assembly.
