“We have evidence of the ties between the key leaders of the Venezuelan extreme-right, the extreme-right in Colombia and criminal gangs which are paid with drugs and dollars… so they kill people selected by them and create a situation of chaos in the country,” Maduro said Saturday as quoted by the local news portal Noticias24.
He added that the Venezuelan far-right forces have “imported the criminal violence from Colombia” and called on the people to stay alert.
In February, a number of opposition rallies took place in major cities of Venezuela. The demonstrations marked the anniversary of a 2014 mass uprising in the country against police violence, record-high inflation and shortages of basic goods.
The country's government said the protests were coup attempts, and arrested several opposition leaders, including Caracas Mayor Antonio Ledezma.
