The movement arose in opposition to the government's measures to rein in the spread of the coronavirus, which the group views as a violation of their freedoms. It mainly consists of army and police veterans.

Sputnik is live from Baarn, the Utrecht Province of the Netherlands, as members of the "Police for Freedom" movement are marching through the city to express their opposition to tighter coronavirus-related measures.

Residents of the Netherlands are required to work from home except when it's impossible to perform duties remotely, observe a curfew overnight, and follow the standard guidelines of mask wearing and social distancing. Certain businesses, mainly entertainment facilities, are presently closed.

The said measures are expected to remain in effect until 20 April.
