Berlin, among other European cities, has previously held a mass rally in solidarity with the US protests against racism following the death of African-American man George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody. At least 15,000 people attended a mass event at Alexanderplatz on 6 June, according to reports.

A mass Black Lives Matter protest is being held in the German capital following a wave of protests and riots struck the United States and other countries after a video was published online showing police officer Derek Chauvin pressing his knee to Floyd's neck, while the latter begged him to stop and said he could not breathe.

Chauvin and three other officers were arrested soon after the incident, while protests and riots, accompanied by numerous cases of looting, arson, and vandalism, rocked American cities.
