Since the beginning of his tenure, Johnson has repeatedly vowed that the United Kingdom would withdraw from the bloc on 31 October with or without a deal. The prime minister has insisted that a backstop plan should be excluded from a deal previously agreed upon by London and Brussels

The European Parliament gathered this Wednesday in Strasbourg, France to discuss the UK's withdrawal from the bloc and adopt a resolution laying out concerns over a possible no-deal exit.

So far, the main stumbling block is the so-called Irish border backstop, which requires Britain to retain some EU trade rules.
