A car mounted a pavement outside London's National History Museum leaving several people injured. Later in the day, London police said that incident wasn't terrorism-related.

London police said that they are aware of an incident near the National History Museum, where a car mounted a pavement leaving several people injured.

The suspected person behind the incident has been arrested, according to police. Law enforcement has described the incident in the South Kensington area as a car collision, however, said that the motive for it is being probed.

"We are aware of an incident in Exhibition Road. A number of people have been injured. A man has been detained by police," police said on Twitter.

A source in police told Sputnik that the investigation into the incident was underway. "Officers are investigating causes of the incident at the site," the source said.

Later in the day, police confirmed media reports, saying that the incident wasn't related to terrorism, but was a road traffic incident.

The incident took place at 2:20 p.m. (13:20 GMT) and caused mass panic. Following the ramming, the Natural History Museum as well as South Kensington and Sloane Square tube stations were evacuated, the Evening Standard newspaper reported.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May was reportedly informed about the incident and was following the situation.

Meanwhile, the museum said on Twitter that a "serious incident" took place.

The Ambulance Service said it was responding to the incident. Later in the day, the service said that a total of 11 people were treated, while 9 taken to hospital after the incident.
