UK police announced that a fifth person has died as the result of the attack on Westminster in London earlier today, and that 40 people had been injured. Police have also announced that they will not comment on the identity of the attacker, though they believe they know who the man was.
Ellwood, a former army officer, was among several people who rushed to help the fallen officer. He tried to staunch the blood from the man's wounds and gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

One of those killed in the Westminster attack is a police officer, media reported.
A woman was rescued from the River Thames after the London attack, the Port of London Authority (PLA) told Reuters. She is injured.
UK Labour Party’s head Jeremy Corbyn on Wednesday expressed gratitude to police and security staff for ensuring security amid the attacks in London.
“The police and security staff have taken swift action to ensure the safety of the public, MPs and staff, and we are grateful to them,” Corbyn said in a statement posted on his Twitter page.
The politician expressed solidarity with the victims of the attack.

The London Metropolitan Police have confirmed several casualties, inluding law enforcers, in the attack. Events near London's parliament building have been declared a terrorist incident.
"There are a number of casualties including police officers," Commander BJ Harrington said, as quoted by the police Twitter account, not confirming the exact numbers of casualties.
The number of victims of the Westminster attack has risen to 2, the Sky News television channel reported Wednesday citing sources.

No Russians, according to preliminary information, were injured in the terrorist attack near the UK parliament compound, the Russian Embassy in London said Wednesday.
"According to preliminary information received by the embassy from the London police, there are no Russians among those injured. We remain in touch with the authorities," the statement said.
The embassy urged Russians in London to abstain from participating in public events.
The London mayor said he spoke to the London Metropolitan police acting commissioner over the attack; an investigation is underway.
"I have spoken to the Acting Commissioner. The Metropolitan Police Service is dealing with the incident and an urgent investigation is underway," Khan said in a statement.
A demining squad has arrived at the scene as there may be an explosive device in the car that had rammed into people outside the UK parliament, media reported citing sources.
"The situation is this - there is always a terror threat level that might change in lieu of events in Westminster today. The Home Office are the ones who will change the terror threat level," Metropolitan Police spokesman told Sputnik.
"I am unaware of any bomb threat in Westminster," he added.
One injured woman died as a result of the "terrorist incident," local TV reported citing doctors. Other victims of the attack with "catastrophic injuries."

British Prime Minister Theresa May returned to 10 Downing Street, "monitoring the situation."
"We are closely following the concerning situation outside the UK Parliament," State Department acting spokesperson Mark Toner said. "We stand ready to assist in any way the UK authorities would find helpful."
The Scottish parliament has suspended debates on the independence referendum amid the London attack.
"Holyrood suspended out of respect for our sister Parliament and all that's going on in Westminster. Thoughts with all down the road," Scottish Government Minister for Transport and the Islands Humza Yousaf said.
According to local media, the Scottish parliament has also stepped up its security.

Members of Parliament were heading to vote when the incident began shortly before 3 p.m. local time.
The leader of the House of Commons, David Lidington, said a "police officer has been stabbed" and the "alleged assailant was shot by armed police" following a "serious incident".

Five people have reportedly been hit by a car after the shooting near the UK parliament.
The Underground station at Westminster has been shut down at police's request.
