MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Former United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage on Monday criticized German Chancellor Angela Merkel's immigration policies, and called on her to take responsibility for the Berlin Christmas market attack.
"Let's be honest, Merkel's immigration policy is one of the worst in Europe for 70 years … People like Angela Merkel need to take responsibility for what's happened," Farage told the LBC radio Tuesday.
Farage's comments come after the interior ministry confirmed Tuesday that the Christmas market attacker was a 23-year-old Pakistani national with a pending asylum request.
On Monday, a truck rammed into the crowd at a Berlin Christmas market on the Breitscheidplatz square, killing 12 people and injuring 48 more. The country's interior ministry has labeled the incident a terrorist attack.
