MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on ratification of protocol that expands and simplifies visa-free border crossing with Norway for border area residents of the two countries, according to a document published on the official portal for legal information on Tuesday.
“To ratify the protocol on amendments to the attachment to the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Facilitation of Mutual Travel for Border Area Residents of Russia and Norway from November 2, 2010, signed in Moscow on January 20, 2016,” the document reads.
The amendments to the bilateral agreement provide for a visa-free entry for the citizens to visit places in the Norwegian village of Neiden, related to the liberation of Northern Norway from the Nazi invaders in 1944 by the Soviet Army. Previously, parts of the village were not covered by the agreement, and Russians were unable to freely visit the Second World War memorials.
