MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to a police statement, the project in boroughs of Wandsworth and Lambeth is not a response to a specific threat, and will be rolled out in other areas of the UK capital in coming months. Both uniformed and plain-clothes officers will take part in the program, which will also be supported by specialist teams including the Dogs Unit, Territorial Support Group and the Marine Police Unit.
"Keeping Londoners safe is the Mayor's top priority and we know our emergency services do a great job every single day protecting our city. However we cannot be complacent, which is why it is good to see the Met rolling out Project Servator to help deter and detect crime in our city's busiest areas," Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Sophie Linden, said, as quoted by the police.
The program, developed, tested and refined over a five-year period, has already been used by City of London Police and British Transport Police, among others.
