MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The European Commission increases the budget up to 133 million euros ($144.9 million) in order to promote EU agricultural products, the commission said in a press release Thursday.
"The Commission adopted the 2017 promotion strategy for EU agricultural products with a total budget of €133 million compared to the €111 million available for 2016. This amount will co-finance several programmes, most of which will target third countries and regions, including China, Middle East, North America, South-East Asia and Japan," the press release said.
According to the press release, the increased budget will support the initiative of EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan to find new markets and boost consumption of EU products abroad.
The European Commission programs will mostly focus on advertising for fruits and vegetables (30 percent of the programs), meat (17 percent) and dairy products (15 percent).
